Do you think it would build under GCC? If so, and if you think you'd be able to talk me through finding those bugs, I'd be willing to install that and take a shot a fixing those bugs at least.

I have never tried to build it with GCC, but honesly, I believe it will not compile without changes. It has some Windows dependencies such ATL and so on, that I believe are not available as a drop in replacement in GCC.

Your best bet would be getting Visual C++ 2010, which works perfectly on GreatNews.

Sorry I've been so quiet (work has me completely swamped).

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Magically teach me programming and how to update Greatnews to the latest versions of VS? Or even better, rewrite it to take advantage of newer technologies? :lol:

In reality, I'd love to see continued development of GN. It is, without a doubt, the best newsreader I've tried, and I've tried a LOT. Especially when I went through a period of believing that GN was dead, and tried to find an acceptable replacement (there isn't one). I just wish I knew enough about programming to be able to offer to update/maintain GN, but my programming days were long ago (last thing I really programmed was a D&D character generator... on my Commodore 64).

If I can ever get the source code to download without the files being corrupt, I'll see what I can do (won't be quickly though, I work 7 days per week so rarely have time for much else)

Haven't forgotten about this.

Am still not able to get the source to download without the file being corrupt (no idea why). Any chance you can email it over if you've still got it please?

I downloaded it, but it says it can't open it as an archive... Makes me wonder if it wasn't compressed improperly.

Much appreciated, cheers (sorry for missing this, I didn't get an email notification).

I'm working on the conversion as I write this (it's trying to argue, not surprisingly, though mostly with third party stuff (e.g. pugxml.h)). Will keep at it once I've had sleep.

As an aside folks, I can be reached directly at;

Since we have no news from MysteryFCM since lots of time ago, I have created a sourceforge repository with my updated (old) builds, just to make sure they are still available and not lost: https://sourceforge.net/projects/nikkho ... GreatNews/
